Getting started 2016

This year, we're moving the focus to another part of the site: looking at the remnants of two structures closer to the Kerry Lodge Bridge. Finding out about the age and possible use of these structures will not only help to fill in more details about how convicts worked, lived and were controlled on site, but may also help to establish a clearer sense of the relationship between the Kerry Lodge site and movement of people and goods along the Launceston-Hobart highway Day 1 was focused on getting the site ready, starting with some detailed surveying and decisions about where to dig. After wrestling the tent HQ into shape, we paused to introduce Ben and Linnea (Masters students from University of Manchester) to the cultural traditions of Australia in the form of Tim Tams and Monte Carlo biscuits. Clearing out vegetation, marking out the trench area and setting up equi[ment was the rest of the day. On Day 2 the rain came down, and msot of the team headed for the drier delights of QVMAG.
